Early Life and Education

His passion for mathematics led him to pursue a degree in statistics at the University of Ibadan, where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree with honors in 1963.
After graduating from the University of Ibadan, Professor James proceeded to the University of California, Berkeley, where he obtained his Master of Arts degree in statistics in 1965. He subsequently obtained his PhD degree in statistics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1969.
Academic Career
Professor James began his academic career as a Lecturer in the Department of Statistics at the University of Ibadan in 1969. He rose through the ranks, becoming a Senior Lecturer in 1973 and a Professor of Statistics in 1979. He served as the Head of the Department of Statistics at the University of Ibadan from 1980 to 1985.
In 1987, Professor James was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos. He served in this role until 1995, during which time he oversaw significant expansion and development of the university. After his tenure as Vice-Chancellor, Professor James returned to the Department of Statistics at the University of Ibadan, where he continued to teach and conduct research until his retirement in 2005.
Professor James has supervised over 50 PhD students and has published extensively in reputable academic journals. He has authored several books on statistics, including "Statistics for Social Scientists" and "Applied Multivariate Analysis." His research interests include sampling theory, design of experiments, and statistical inference.
Contributions to Statistics
