Why Free Markets Are Moral And Big Government Isn't
In this groundbreaking book, renowned economist and philosopher Tom Palmer argues that free markets are not only the most efficient way to organize an economy, but also the most moral.
Palmer begins by defining morality as "the pursuit of human well-being." He then argues that free markets promote well-being by allowing individuals to pursue their own interests in a way that benefits everyone. When people are free to start businesses, create new products, and trade with each other, they create wealth and prosperity that benefits the entire society.

In contrast, Palmer argues that big government is immoral because it restricts individual freedom and prevents people from pursuing their own goals. When the government takes control of the economy, it inevitably leads to cronyism, corruption, and economic stagnation. The poor and middle class are the ones who suffer the most from big government, as they are the ones who are most dependent on the free market for their livelihoods.
Palmer concludes by arguing that we need to return to a system of free markets and limited government if we want to create a more just and prosperous society. He urges us to reject the siren song of socialism and embrace the principles of liberty and individual responsibility.
"This is a must-read for anyone who wants to understand the moral case for free markets. Palmer makes a compelling argument that free markets are not only the most efficient way to organize an economy, but also the most moral."
Milton Friedman, Nobel Laureate in Economics
"Palmer's book is a timely and important contribution to the debate over the role of government in our lives. He makes a powerful case for free markets and limited government, and his arguments are sure to provoke thought and discussion."
Charles Murray, author of Coming Apart
