Hudson was born in 1925 in Winnetka, Illinois. His father was a telephone lineman and his mother was a homemaker. Hudson had a difficult childhood. His parents divorced when he was young, and he was often bullied at school. He found solace in sports, and he excelled at football and track.
After graduating from high school, Hudson joined the Navy. He served in the Pacific during World War II, and he was awarded a Bronze Star for his bravery. After the war, Hudson returned to the United States and began working as a truck driver. He also started taking acting classes, and he soon landed a small role in a Broadway play.
In 1952, Hudson was cast in his first major film role, in "The Magnificent Obsession." The film was a huge success, and Hudson quickly became one of the most popular actors in Hollywood. He went on to star in a string of hit films, including "Giant" (1956),"Pillow Talk" (1959),and "Lover Come Back" (1961).
Hudson's career reached its peak in the 1960s. He was one of the biggest stars in the world, and he was earning a fortune. But behind the scenes, Hudson was struggling with personal problems. He was gay, but he was afraid to come out of the closet. He also had a drinking problem, and he was often depressed.
In 1985, Hudson was diagnosed with AIDS. He was one of the first celebrities to be diagnosed with the disease, and his diagnosis shocked the world. Hudson died of AIDS-related complications in 1985. He was 59 years old.
