What Two Presidents, Eight Road Trips, and My Son Taught Me About Parenting
I've never been one for road trips. I'm not a fan of sitting in a car for hours on end, and I get bored easily. But when my son was born, I knew that I wanted to experience the country with him. So, we started taking road trips.

Our first road trip was when my son was just six months old. We drove from our home in California to visit my parents in New York. It was a long drive, but we made it. And along the way, I started to learn some valuable lessons about parenting.
One of the most important things I learned is that it's okay to let your kids be bored. In fact, it's actually good for them. When kids are bored, they have to find ways to entertain themselves. This can lead to creativity, problem-solving, and independence.
I also learned that it's important to be patient. Kids don't always learn things as quickly as we'd like them to. But if we're patient and supportive, they will eventually get there.
And finally, I learned that it's important to have fun. Parenting is hard work, but it's also a lot of fun. So make sure to take some time to enjoy your kids. They're only little for a short time.
I've now taken eight road trips with my son. We've visited all 50 states, and we've met two presidents along the way. These trips have been some of the most memorable experiences of my life. And they've taught me so much about parenting.
If you're thinking about taking a road trip with your kids, I highly recommend it. It's a great way to bond with your family and create memories that will last a lifetime.
Here are some tips for taking a road trip with kids:
- Plan your route in advance. This will help you avoid getting lost or taking any unnecessary detours.
- Pack plenty of snacks and drinks. Kids get hungry and thirsty quickly, so make sure you have plenty of food and drinks on hand.
- Make sure your kids have something to do. Bring along books, games, or movies to keep them entertained.
- Be patient. Kids don't always learn things as quickly as we'd like them to. But if we're patient and supportive, they will eventually get there.
- Have fun. Parenting is hard work, but it's also a lot of fun. So make sure to take some time to enjoy your kids. They're only little for a short time.
